Truck driver charged after collision with 73-year-old cyclist
The truck driver was charged with negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, and driver of motor vehicle not pass bicycle at safe distance. Police will allege in court the truck driver was negligent and did not leave 1.5m when overtaking the female cyclist on Gunnedah Rd near Tamworth.
No one wants to see this happen on the shoulders at Faulconbridge. The non-compliant narrow/ non-existent shoulders at Faulconbridge make it very difficult for professional drivers to comply with the 1.5 metre passing rule applicable to high speed roads. If the NSW Minister for Roads agrees that cyclists and heavy vehicles should not share the same high speed lane at Faulconbridge then we look forward to hearing what actions will be taken to make this non-compliant road shoulder safe for cyclists.
